LG G4

If you’re thinking of picking up the new LG G4, you might be wondering how well it will hold up when it gets dropped — after all, we all drop our smartphones at some point. Well, wonder no more, because you can see how well the new flagship fairs in the drop test video below.

Carried out by TechRax, who has been drop-testing the latest devices for years, this torture test shows how the G4 holds up when dropped on its base, and then on its display.

The device actually holds up fairly well in the first test, which just some minor cosmetic damage to the plastic bezel around the edge of the device. But unfortunately, it wasn’t quite as impressive in the second test.

You’ll definitely want to invest in a case if you do decide to pick up the G4, then — particularly if you’re a clumsy person — because it’s not going to survive too many drops before its display shatters into tiny pieces. But at least the G4’s display is still usable in this state; when TechRax drop-tested the G3 last year (see the video below), he found that the device stopped detecting touch input once its glass had cracked.

Of course, most smartphones will break if you drop them face-first without a case, so it’s not like the G4 is particularly fragile. You shouldn’t let this put you off, then, if you’re thinking about adopting the G4.

If you really want to know whether the device is worth your hard-earned cash, be sure to check out our in-depth review.
