LG recently announced its new G Pad family of 7-, 8-, and 10.1-inch tablets, and while the tablets were shown off at an event recently, the Korean manufacturer is yet to offer any details on the G Pad lineup’s hardware to the general public. Thankfully, the folks over at Frandroid are doing that in LG’s stead, and have released hands-on photos and hardware details of the 7-inch variant of the G Pad. 

The photos show off a design that resembles that of other LG devices like the Nexus 5 and even the upcoming G3. The tablet’s back reportedly sports a soft-touch plastic finish, and by the looks of it, LG didn’t do much to cut the fat off the device, which means it might not be fit for those looking for a sleek and lightweight tablet. Of course, with its mid-range underpinnings, the G Pad isn’t exactly going after the premium segment, though LG seems to have managed to throw in stereo speakers (too bad they are placed on the back.)

As far as specs are concerned, the G Pad 7.0 sports a 1280×800 display, a quad-core Snapdragon 400 CPU clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, a 3-megapixel rear camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, 8GB of expandable internal storage, and a removable 4,000mAh battery. Android 4.4 KitKat is running the show on the software side of things, and as we saw in the leaked manual for the device, it will sport a redesigned (though not necessarily better-looking) version of LG’s Optimus UI.

It’s pretty clear that the G Pad tablets are designed to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Tab4 lineup, and LG might just be able to woo some consumers provided it prices them right. There’s no official info on the release date, though we’re guessing we will see a market launch soon after the LG G3 goes public.
