Tizen is an operating system that doesn’t get a lot of coverage on this website because … let’s fact it, for all intents and purposes it has zero impact on consumers. What is Tizen? A long time ago, Nokia and Intel were both working on their own respective Linux based mobile operating systems. Nokia had Maemo, Intel had Moblin. The two decided to merge their efforts and give birth to a new OS called MeeGo. Nokia then got a new CEO, who pulled the plug on MeeGo, so Samsung took Nokia’s place and decided to rename the OS Tizen.

Seeing as how Android is kicking ass and taking names when it comes to market share, and how iOS is one of the most successful platforms to ever be created for developers looking to monetize their apps, why would Samsung start working on Tizen? I honestly don’t know, but what I do know is these handful of images of Tizen 3.0 running on a Samsung Galaxy S4 look gorgeous.

When will Tizen 3.0 come out? Supposedly Q1 2014, but I’ve been following Tizen long enough to know that these dates don’t really mean anything since Samsung loves to change their mind at a moment’s notice.

Update: Take a look at that smiley face in the dialer. Direct copy of Windows Phone.
