Huawei P9 Review

Three months after its international launch, Huawei has launched the P9 in India. The handset comes with a dual-12MP shooter at its rear with Leica branding.

The premium mid-ranger will compete against the likes of Xiaomi Mi 5 and OnePlus in the country. The handset features a premium unibody design made from aerospace-class aluminum with diamond-cut edges that houses a 5.2-inch Full HD display. The handset is powered by Huawei’s own Kirin 955 chipset that is accompanied with 3GB RAM and up to 64GB of storage space.

Other specs of the handset include a USB Type-C port, a fingerprint scanner at the rear, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE, a triple antenna design for better network reception, dual-SIM slots, and more.

The highlight of the P9 is its dual 12MP shooters at its rear. The IMX286 sensors from Sony feature large 1.25um pixels paired with an f/2.2 aperture and lens from Leica. Huawei says this dual camera setup allows the P9 to absorb more light, capture more vivid details, and further reduce noise. The front of the handset houses an 8MP selfie shooter.

Huawei has priced the P9 at Rs. 39,999 in India. The handset will go on sale on Flipkart from later today, with the phone also being available in selected offline stores. Huawei is offering up to 2 years warranty with the device and free screen replacement within the first 3 months in case it is damaged.

Compared to the likes of the Mi 5 and the OnePlus 3, Huawei has surely priced the P9 higher than its competitors. It would be interesting to see if this move from the company works in its favor in a price sensitive market like India or not.
