Huawei today announced that it would be announcing the Mate 30 series at a media event in Munich on September 19th. The teaser accompanying the announcement hints at the Mate 30 series coming with a circular camera hump at the rear as pointed out by the leaks.
Huawei is also set to unveil its next-generation Kirin 990 chipset at IFA 2019 later this week. The same chip will also be found inside the Mate 30 series. It is expected to pack some major improvements related to audio and camera processing and will be based on TSMC’s enhanced 7nm fabrication process.

As for the Huawei Mate 30 series, Huawei is once again expected to raise the bar of smartphone photography with the lineup this year. The Mate 30 Pro is rumored to come with two massive 40MP sensors along with an ultra-wide angle shooter. The quad-camera setup will be completed by a Cine camera. It will be interesting to see how Huawei uses this Cine camera and what improvements the Mate 30 series brings in terms of camera performance.
It is also unclear if the Mate 30 series will ship with access to Google’s Play suite and Play services. The phone was not certified by Google before Huawei was put on the Entity list by the United States. What this means is that the Mate 30 series cannot be certified by Google due to the ban and thus it cannot launch with access to the Play Store. It remains to be seen how Huawei will circumvent this issue as the lack of Google Play services will make a lot of consumers outside of China lose interest in the phones.
