In the United States, there are two ways to buy the HTC 10 right now: buy an unlocked variant directly from HTC or buy one from Verizon that will sport the carrier’s branding at the back, get slower updates, and will come with more bloatware.

In comparison, the unlocked variant not only gets faster updates and comes with almost no bloatware, it is also compatible with T-Mobile’s and AT&T’s network. Until and unless, you are on the Verizon network, there really is no reason for you to buy the unlocked variant of the 10. Thanks to a bit of a hackery though, even Verizon subscribers can now use the unlocked HTC 10 on the Big Red’s network. The process requires one to first S-OFF the HTC 10 and have access to an activated Verizon SIM card and radio file.

You also need to be familiar with ADB/fastboot for the process, since you will need to execute some commands with the phone in bootloader mode.

It is likely that Verizon will try blocking this method by forcing HTC to roll out an update or by blocking the ESN of these phones. So, it is recommended that you try this hack right away on your unlocked HTC 10. You surely don’t want to live with delayed updates and bloatware, do you?
