HTC has already confirmed that it will be updating the HTC 10, One A9, and One M9 to Android 7.0 Nougat even before the final release of the OS dropped from Google. Now that Nougat is officially out, HTC has provided an estimated timeframe as to when the update would be making its way to a few of its devices.

The Taiwanese OEM first plans to roll out the Android 7.0 Nougat for the unlocked the HTC 10 in Q4 2016. This will be followed by the unlocked One M9, One A9, and carrier variants of these devices.

While it is commendable to see HTC provide an estimated timeframe for the Nougat update for some of its devices, there is a big problem here. The company had promised last year with the launch of the One A9 that it would receive any future Android updates within 15 days of the final source code dropping from Google. The One A9 was the first phone to launch with Marshmallow onboard, so HTC essentially made a false promise right from the very beginning since Nougat is the first major update to land after Marshmallow in almost a year.

The One A9 did not particularly do well, so it’s not like many users are going to be ticked off  by HTC breaking its own promise, but it definitely does not help instill confidence in the already struggling OEM.
