Translucent status bar in Google Now Launcher

Google has rolled out a new update for its Google Search app (v4.6) that brings translucent navigation and status bar in Google Now for third-party launchers.

Earlier, the status and navigation bar used to become transparent in Google Now when the Google Now Launcher was used. On third-party launchers like Nova or Apex, the status and navigation bar remained opaque/black which did not provide a seamless experience.

With this update though, the status and navigation now become translucent even when Google Now is accessed from third-party launchers. While a seemingly minor change, it does lead to a more immersive experience and makes Google Now adhere to an important Material Design guideline.

Sadly for Galaxy S6 and S6 edge owners, the update does not bring back the ‘Ok Google’ voice detection feature that suddenly disappeared from the handset. It is unclear as to why this feature was removed from the handset, and whether it will ever come back or not.

The update is being rolled out in stages so it will now show up immediately on your Android device. You can, however, sideload the APK manually from here.
