The Samsung Galaxy S10+ has taken the top spot in Consumer Reports’ smartphone ranking beating the likes of the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max. The smartphone particularly impressed with its battery life which was way ahead of other smartphones, its impressive triple camera setup at the rear, and top-notch build quality.

Thanks to the use of a 7nm Snapdragon 855 chipset, more power efficient components, and a bigger 4,100mAh battery, the Galaxy S10+ offers stellar battery life. In Consumer Reports testing, the phone lasted 8 hours more than the Galaxy Note 9 — the previous chart-topper.

The S10+ performed equally impressive in CR’s tumble test where it survived 100 drops in a tumbler with just a few scuffs. The triple camera at the rear is impressive, especially the different bokeh effects that Samsung is able to provide. Its the front camera of the Galaxy S10+ that fails to live up to expectations. Despite the presence of a depth sensor, the S10+ simply did not take great portrait photos as other phones in the market.

The new Consumer Reports score also takes into account reliability and owner satisfaction ratings of existing smartphone users. The results were based on a survey covering over 132,374 smartphone owners who purchased a device between 2013 to 2018. On both fronts, Samsung scored an Excellent and Very Good rating. While impressive, that’s a bit behind OnePlus and Apple as both companies managed to score an Excellent rating.

Our Take

It is not surprising to see the Galaxy S10+ take the top spot in Consumer Reports ranking. It is easily the best smartphone on the market right now offering stellar battery life and a gorgeous display. Samsung has truly worked hard on ensuring the Galaxy S10 series stands out from other flagship smartphones in the market.
