Samsung today officially announced the beta program for One UI based on Android 10 for the Samsung Galaxy S10 series. The company’s announcement is short on details on the regions where the beta program is available, but it has highlighted some of the key new One UI 2.0 features.

To ensure that you are not distracted from whatever you are doing, Samsung has streamlined its notifications in One UI 2.0/Android 10 and made them more compact. The call UI pop-up and the volume bar have been streamlined and reduced in size for this.

While One UI already had Dark Mode before Google added it to Android 10, Samsung has further improved it with One UI 2.0. Dark Mode now extends to the home screen and it now also adjusts the brightness of text and images to reduce eye strain. The Lock Screen is now also smarter and automatically adjusts the color and format of the clock and notifications to make them easier to read depending on the wallpaper applied.

Samsung has also redesigned its Device Care feature in One UI 2.0 as a part of the Android 10 update. The company has also updated Digital Wellbeing with a new Focus mode that let’s users pause apps they don’t need to focus on other tasks at hand. While not mentioned in the announcement, One UI 2.0 also brings new system animations that are noticeably smoother than before.

While One UI itself was a major update when it was released by Samsung last year, that’s not the case with One UI 2.0. The company has only tweaked and updated things that are necessary and ensured that the UI/UX is not radically overhauled unless needed.

In the first batch of the beta, Samsung is expected to make its One UI 2.0 + Android 10 beta program live for Galaxy S10 owners in the United States and Germany. The beta program is already live in Samsung’s home country, South Korea, where limited beta slots were available. You can take part in the beta program from the Samsung Members app.
