Samsung has once again managed to set the smartphone display bar higher with the Galaxy Note 9.  While the company made modest improvements with the Galaxy S9’s OLED panel earlier this year, it has raised the bar significantly higher with the 6.4-inch QHD+ panel on the Note 9.

In DisplayMate‘s testing, the Note 9’s OLED panel managed to set a new record for brightness which was 27 percent higher than that of the Note 8. In numbers, the Note 9’s display is capable of reaching a peak brightness of 710 nits which is even higher than some of the best LCD panels around. Additionally, the score for contrast rating for high ambient light was also higher by 32 percent compared to the previous Note.

In the Absolute Color Accuracy benchmark, the Note 9’s display hit a record-high which it says is “visually indistinguishable from perfect.” Other areas where the panel managed to set a new record include that of color accuracy and intensity, small color shits, brightness shifts, and viewing angles. The panel also had the lowest screen reflectance of 4.4 percent, largest native color gamut of 113 percent and 142 percent of sRGB, highest contrast ratio, and more.

Ultimately, the Note 9’s display managed to get an ‘A+’ from DisplayMate, the highest rating possible from the publication.

The Galaxy Note 9 is the most innovative and high performance Smartphone display that we have ever Lab tested, breaking and establishing many new Display Performance Records that are listed above. The Galaxy Note 9 delivers uniformly consistent all around Top Tier Display Performance and receives All Green (Very Good to Excellent) Ratings in All of the DisplayMate Lab Test and Measurement Categories – only the second display we have ever tested to get All Green in All Categories – the Galaxy S9 was the first. The level of display performance and excellence has been increasing each year, and the Galaxy Note 9 has now raised the bar significantly higher.

It is commendable to see Samsung raise the display bar so much higher with the Note 9 this year. It shows that despite already having the best OLED panels around in the market, the company does not want to rest on its laurels and wants to push the bar even higher. The display continues to remain an area where Samsung dominates every other Android OEM out there.
