Google today released the final Developer Preview of Android 7.0 Nougat before its official release later this summer. The final Developer Preview of the OS includes the final APIs, and also locks in system behaviors and UI changes.

A quick changelog of the update as provided by Google in their official announcement is below:

  • System images for Nexus and other preview devices

  • An emulator that you can use for doing the final testing of your apps to make sure they’re ready

  • The final N APIs (API level 24) and latest system behaviors and UI

  • The latest bug fixes and optimizations across the system and in preinstalled apps

Google recommends developers to test and make sure their apps are compatible with all the new features and optimisations that it has made in Nougat such as Doze, screen zoom, permissions changes, and more. It also encourages them to take advantage of new features introduced in the OS like multi-window support and Direct Reply.

Developers can already compile and upload their Android N compatible apps in their alpha, beta, or production channels on the Google Play Store.

If you are already running the previous Android Nougat Developer Preview on your Nexus device, you will get an OTA update on your handset right away. If not, you can enroll into the Android Beta program by signing up for it here.
