Xiaomi — popularly known as the Apple of China — is working on its own smartwatch to take on the Apple Watch. The Chinese company will be partnering with Huami — a company known for developing wearable tech products — for its upcoming smartwatch that will feature a large dial to make pulse wave velocity identification possible.

The technology will read the heartbeat of the wearer that will act as a password for payments and other purposes. The technology definitely sounds unique, but might be difficult to implement due to its high power consumption and light pollution. Huami’s CEO Huang Wang, however, is confident that his company’s engineers have been able to bypass these difficulties.

The report also reveals that Xiaomi’s smartwatch will be made with brushed metal — similar to the one that is used on the HTC One M9. As for the user experience, the report claims that Hugo Barra, VP at Xiaomi international, said that the company’s smartwatch “user experience will be the best” in the market.

Despite all its features and premium build quality, Wang is confident that Xiaomi’s smartwatch will be priced lower than its competitor.

Huang also talked about the upcoming Xiaomi Band 2 — a fitness wearable from the company — in his interview with 36kr. He said that the upcoming wearable will feature a sporty and light design, and will be available in a multitude of colors. It will also come with a new NFC sensor to allow for easier connectivity.
