Not to be outdone before 2018 comes to an end, AT&T is looking ahead to 2019 just like Verizon is, as both major wireless carriers set their sights on 5G.

And while both carriers have different rollout plans for the more advanced wireless network, both carriers will be relying on the same device to kick things off. Verizon recently announced that its first 5G smartphone will be from Samsung, and also confirmed in the same announcement that the upcoming handset will be taking advantage of Qualcomm’s X50 5G NR modem. AT&T’s announcement is more about the upcoming network than anything else, but big blue does also confirm it will be playing host to Samsung’s unannounced upcoming 5G smartphone, too.

AT&T confirms it will launch Samsung’s phone, what is probably going to be a variant of the Galaxy S10, sometime in the spring of 2019. It’s not going into any details just yet, mostly because Samsung hasn’t gotten around to announcing its newest handset just yet. But those details are likely just around the corner with 2018 wrapping up here soon enough.

It’s looking like Samsung is going to be one of the companies that helps launch 5G in the United States, which will likely be a big milestone for the company.
