Asus ZenFone Selfie

Apart from the ZenWatch 2, Asus also unveiled a new selfie focused phone, the aptly named ZenFone Selfie, and a four new ZenPad tablets — though only two of them are worth talking about, at Computex today.

The ZenFone Selfie features a 5.5-inch 1080p display and is powered by a Snapdragon 615 octa-core chip from Qualcomm. The handset also comes with 2GB RAM, 16GB of storage space, a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE and GPS.

The front and rear cameras of the ZenFone Selfie feature a 13MP resolution, though the front one has an F/2.2 aperture and a 24mm wide angle lens, while the rear camera has an F/2.0 aperture with a 28mm lens. Asus has also taken couple of pages out of LG’s book and included a laser autofocus sensor for quicker autofocus and placed the volume keys on the rear of the handset.

As for the software, the ZenFone Selfie runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with the company’s ZenFone UI running on top of it.

Asus also unveiled two new tablets under its ZenPad brand: the ZenPad 380c and Z580C. The former is a budget tablet and features an 8-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Internally, the processor is powered by an Intel Atom C3200 quad-core chip that also features a Mali 450MP4 GPU. Other specs include 1 or 2GB RAM, 8/16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a 2MP front shooter, 5MP rear shooter and a 4,000mAh battery.

The highlight of the tablet, however, is its removable back — something which has largely been reserved for smartphones. Asus will be offering backs for the Z380C in leather black, pearl white and aurora metallic.

The Z580C is more of a high-end tablet from Asus and features an 8-inch IPS screen with a 2048 x 1536 resolution that gives it a 4:3 aspect ratio in a 6.68mm thin body. The glass on the tablet has been optically bonded to the display to reduce any visible air gaps between the two. Under the hood, the Z580C is powered by an Intel quad-core chip running at 2.3GHz, a PowerVR G6430 GPU, 4GB RAM, 16/32/64GB storage space, a microSD card slot and more. Other notable specs include a 5MP front camera, an 8MP rear shooter, a 6,000mAh battery and a USB Type-C connector.

Asus did not mention when its new phones and tablets will be available and at what price points. The company should make these details public when the devices are closer to their launch.
