Skype finally adds picture-in-picture video chat for Android phones

Next time you take a Skype call on your Android phone, you can banish the video chat window to the corner of your screen move on to something way more interesting. It’s perfect for chats with annoying relatives!

This picture-in-picture feature already exists on Android tablets, but Microsoft is now bringing it to phones in its latest update to the Skype app. Via the update, you can also format text in your instant messages, finally receive photos sent from ione Skype users. The update also includes the obligatory bug fixes that typically accompany a version bump. There are a few other small details, which you can discover in the full changelog at the ay Store.

The impact on you: If you’re a heavy Skype user, you already know the picture-in-picture feature is long overdue feature. It’s nice to see Microsoft finally apply what it’s already done on tablets to its phone version of the app. And with phones getting ever bigger, there’s plenty of opportunity to put this to use.
