Google already has a toe in the virtual reality (VR) pond, thanks to Cardboard, but it sounds like the company is about to take a big leap.
Based on a series of tweets published by journalist Peter Rojas (@peterrojas), Google has aspirations of announcing and showcasing “Android VR” at this year’s Google I/O event, which is set to take place next week. Rojas only had a few bits to share, but he did say that the headset will apparently be less powerful than some alternatives out there, including HTC’s Vive headset, and the Oculus Rift.
Android VR will definitely be announced next week, and from what I’ve heard will be less powerful than the Vive or Rift.

However, while it may be less powerful than those two (admittedly powerful) options, this Android-powered VR headset will apparently be more powerful than Samsung’s Gear VR. What all that means is still a mystery right now, and it still remains to be seen how Google plans to target the headset — if it gets announced at all.
@kesslerio I don’t have more specifics, but multiple sources have told me that it offers better experience than Gear VR.

If Google is indeed launching an Android VR headset, what would you like to see the company bring to the table as far as features go?
