Google today launched Android Pay in Australia, the second in the Asia-Pacific region after Singapore. Android Pay is the third mobile based payment service to launch in Australia this year, with Samsung Pay and Apple Pay making its way to the country earlier in the year.

Right now, Android Pay in Down Under supports American Express debit and credit cards, but support for MasterCard cards will also be added to the service. Android Pay is supported by 25+ banks and credit unions in the region including ANZ, American Express, MyStateBank, and Teachers Mutual Bank. Don’t be fooled by number though, as ANZ is the only major bank in that list.

A complete list of support banks and credit unions can be found here. Google notes in its announcement that support for cards from Bendigo Bank and ING Direct will also be added to Android Pay soon.

Contactless payment is already supported by a wide variety of retailers in Australia such as Domino’s, 7-Eleven, Coles, and more. Android Pay support for in-app payments will also be coming in a few days in apps like EatNow, Hotel Tonight, Deliveroo, and others.
