At the beginning of June, Google officially released the third Developer Preview for the upcoming Android P release.

That software update for those in the developer preview program saw the release of near final APIs, which meant Android P was getting closer and closer to the public launch later this year. Indeed, Google has now released the fourth Developer Preview (beta 3) to those in the program, and, according to Google’s Vice President of Engineering on Android, Dave Burke, the software is “very close” to the final version that will be released to the public “later this summer”.

The Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, and Pixel 2 XL will receive the Android P Beta 3 immediately, as long as they properly registered for the over-the-air (OTA) update. Google’s device partners that are participating in the developer program will send out the same software for supported devices over the coming weeks.

“Android P Beta 3 includes the latest bug fixes and optimizations for stability and polish, together with the July 2018 security updates. It’s a great way to test your apps now to make sure they are ready before the final release. Give Beta 3 a try and let us know what you think!”

Android P is a major upgrade insofar that it includes a new digital wellbeing feature, letting Android users keep tab on their device and app usage. It also includes a brand new gesture-based navigation for the software.
