OnePlus today released the first beta build of OxygenOS for the OnePlus 5 based on Android 8.0 Nougat. The beta build mainly brings all the Oreo-y goodness to the handset including features like Picture-in-Picture, Auto-fill, Notification dots, and more. (www.topskitchen.com)

As OnePlus had previously mentioned, the final Oreo-based build of OxygenOS for the OnePlus 5 will be available in Q1 2018. The OxygenOS Open Beta program from the company is a way of getting additional feedback regarding upcoming software updates in terms of both stability and bugs from advanced users.

Apart from Oreo, the open beta OxygenOS build also bumps the security patch to October.

The full change-log of the update is as follows:

  • System
    • Updated to Android O (8.0)
      • Added Picture in Picture
      • Added Auto-fill
      • Added Smart text selection
      • New Quick Settings design
    • Added Parallel Apps
    • Updated security patch to October
  • Launcher
    • Added notification dots
    • New app folder design
    • Now able to upload photos directly to Shot on OnePlus

Since this is a beta build, it is bound to have some bugs and stability issues. If the OnePlus 5 is your daily driver, I will recommend you to hold out for the second or possibly third beta build of Oreo for the device before installing it on your device.

A beta build of OxygenOS based on Android 8.0 for the OnePlus 5 is set to be released next month.
