For OnePlus 5T owners out there that want to try a beta version of Android 8.0 Oreo, ahead of the public launch, the company has officially opened things up.

OnePlus has confirmed that it is now allowing OnePlus 5T owners to try an open beta of Android 8.0 Oreo, which is designed to give the company data ahead of the public release, all in an effort to make sure the software is stable when it is ready for wide release. OnePlus does note that these are not stable releases, and that there may be issues that crop up from time-to-time, so if you aren’t willing to live with some hiccups, joining the beta path might not be worth the effort.

If you do install it, which there are instructions to do so through the source link below, you will have Android 8.0 Oreo on your device, which will bring with it picture-in-picture support, and much more. The open beta also includes the December security patch as well.

If you do install the beta software on your daily driver, then you will be moved over to the beta program, which means you will no longer receive stable over-the-air (OTA) updates for the wide release. Instead, you will receive software updates for the Android 8.0 Oreo software, which will be delivered as OTA downloads as well.

OnePlus also details how to revert back to the stable, official build if you don’t want to use the Android 8.0 Oreo beta any longer. That’s available through the source link as well.

The new beta software of Android 8.0 Oreo is available now if you want to give it a go. Hopefully for those willing to wait, the wide release of Android Oreo for the OnePlus 5T is right around the corner.
