It’s always a wise strategy to hook them when they’re young. It looks like that’s Google’s angle with its second free app of the week, which is another title for kids.
Toca Hair Salon 2, regularly $2.99, is now free for the taking in the Play Store. Just like other apps in the popular Toca Boca series, kids get to manipulate the objects on the screen. They can cut, trim, and color hairstyles until their heart’s content.
Last week Google kicked off the weekly giveaway with Daniel Tiger Grr-ific Feelings. While this is great for kids and families, it means we’re unlikely to see any of those excellent tower defense games or zombie thrillers hit this list anytime soon.
The story behind the story: Google has spent much of the last year turning the Google Play Store into a safe playground for kids. It now has a family-friendly section that aggregates apps, games, movies, and TV shows for a younger audience. It’s a wise strategy—parents are more willing to buy kids apps and other digital content if they feel like they won’t have to watch over their shoulder to ensure nothing unsavory pops up on the screen.
