ZTE, tired of being treated as an underdog and having operators muck up their phones with layers upon layers of bloat, has just announced that they’re going to start selling two of their flagship phones directly to consumers later this month. The Nubia 5 and Grand S share a lot of the same specs. Both have a 5.0 inch 1080p screen, both have a 13 megapixel camera, with the Nubia rocking a Konica-Minolta sensor, both have a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro and 2 GB of RAM.

How exactly is the Nubia 5 different from the Grand S? I’m going to admit that I can’t really spot any differences, except for the design, of course. The Nubia 5 is going to come in at $450, whereas the Grand S is $50 cheaper, so I’m going to assume the Nubia is made of better materials. Amazon will start taking preorders for both of these handsets on October 5th, and I look forward to seeing what people have to say about them.

But serious question now, should you buy either of these phones? We all know that Google is going to announce the LG Nexus 5 later this month running the latest version of Android and it’ll also have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. Assuming it comes in at $399, hell, even $449, it’s a far better buy than anything from ZTE.

I mean, if you’re going to buy an unlocked phone, the Nexus 5 will be impossible to beat.
