ZTE Nubia 5S mini LTE

Chinese manufacturer ZTE has just announced a brand new, unlocked device that’s new to the United States, and will be landing State-side soon. It will be sold with a relatively low price tag, and it looks like Amazon will be the online retailer bridled with the job of selling it.

The announcement was made via an official press release on August 20. The handset is the ZTE Nubia 5S LTE, and it brings with it plenty of mid-range specs that someone looking to get their hands on a cheap phone, especially without any monthly installment fees or contracts, might want to take a look at. ZTE says that the device features “DSLR-like control” for the camera, and a thin, light build helped in part with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor tucked inside.

More than that, though, ZTE sees this as a first step of many as they continue to try and push into the U.S.-based market. It’s no secret that ZTE is a well known name internationally, but it is far from a household name for many in the United States:

“Selling the nubia 5S mini LTE unlocked, direct to consumers shows ZTE has faith in its products and is capable of delivering LTE devices and consumer-focused innovation in the U.S.,” said Lixin Cheng, chairman and CEO of ZTE USA. “Offering an unlocked Android phone via Amazon addresses consumer demand for alternative devices that deliver more personal value than mainstream brands and don’t tie them to one mobile eco-system.

Here are the specs for the Nubia 5S LTE:

  • Battery: Li-ion 2000mAh
  • Dimensions: 134.8 x 65.8 x 7.6mm
  • Display: 4.7″, HD 720 x 1280, 16.7M color
  • Memory: 16GB expandable to 32GB via micro SD
  • Network Compatibility: LTE, GSM, WCDMA
  • Operating System: Android 4.3 Jelly Bean
  • Processor: Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 400 Quad Core with Adreno 305 GPU at 1.2 GHz
  • And because ZTE wants to put quite a bit of attention on the camera, they’ve broken down those features, too:

  • 13 megapixel rear-camera with a BSI image sensor and LED flash
  • 5 megapixel front-camera
  • F2.2 aperture
  • Five pieces of precision optical lens
  • Blue glass composite IR filter
  • Sapphire lens
  • HD 720p/30fps video
  • The ZTE Nubia 5S LTE is admittedly a mid-range device, but with a $279.99 price tag, and being sold unlocked through Amazon for anyone on a GSM carrier, it’s certainly not a bad option.

Do you plan on picking it up?
