Smartphone prices have been dwindling with every passing month, but a company — Ringing Bells — has taken things to a completely different level with its Freedom 251 smartphone that was unveiled in India today. The handset costs a mere Rs. 251 ($3.7$ roughly) and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop, making it the cheapest Android phone to be ever launched.
Despite its low price, the Freedom 251 packs in quite a punch. It comes with a 4-inch qHD (960 x 540) resolution display, and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core chipset, 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. It also comes with a 3.2MP rear shooter, a 0.3MP front shooter, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS and a 1450mAh battery.
For its price, it is simply amazing that Ringing Bells has managed to pack in so much hardware into the handset. There is almost no doubt that Freedom 251 is being subsidised by Ringing Bells, though why they are exactly selling their handset for so low remains a mystery for now. The handset also comes with 1-year warranty and Ringing Bells has tied up with a third-party service provider to gain access to a network of more than 650 service centres across India.
Registrations to buy the Freedom 251 from Ringing Bells starts from February 18.
