Samsung today announced that will be expanding its mobile payment service, Samsung Pay, to Singapore — the first country in Southeast Asia. The company’s announcement comes less than a day after Apple launched Apple Pay in the country.

Samsung has already secured partnerships with American Express, MasterCard, Visa, and major banks like DBS/OCBC Bank and Standard Chartered as launch partners. The Korean company expects to launch Samsung Pay in Singapore “by as early as Q2 2016”.

Ahead of its launch, Samsung will also be holding beta trials to test the service. It is already working with retailers and merchants to prepare for the upcoming roll out of its payment service.

All Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge owners will be able to use Samsung Pay on their devices when the service finally launches in the country. Surprisingly, the list does not mention anything about the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, which have all the required hardware to support Samsung Pay.

Unlike Apple Pay, Samsung’s payment service can also work with traditional PoS terminals thanks to its MST technology. In Singapore at least, Samsung Pay will also support more banks and credit/debit cards compared to Apple Pay, which for now only supports cards issued by American Express.
