So far, Samsung has kept its mobile payment service, Samsung Pay, exclusive to its flagship Galaxy S/Note and certain premium mid-range devices. However, the company is reportedly looking to bring Samsung Pay to non-Samsung devices as well now.

As per a report from Gadgets 360, Samsung held internal talks as well as with OEMs to decide on whether it should bring Samsung Pay to non-Samsung devices or not.

Samsung Pay has one key advantage over Android Pay and Apple Pay: it works with traditional non-NFC based PoS terminals as well. This is due to the MST technology being used by the service which Samsung got its hands on when it acquired LoopPayin 2015.

To add full Samsung Pay support to their devices, OEMs will also have to add this special MST chip on their devices. The Korean company is also exploring options to offer an external accessory that would allow other Android smartphones to support Samsung Pay as well.

Since Samsung is still in early talks about this move, the sources suggest that the results of these developments will only start making their way to the market from mid-2018.

In addition, Samsung is also bringing Samsung Pay to its mid-range devices from later this year. This should not be surprising since the company has been rapidly expanding its mobile payment service to more markets. In India, for example, Samsung launched a ‘mini’ version of Samsung Pay that only works with digital wallets and UPI. Thus, by adding full fledged Samsung Pay to its mid-range devices, the company will only help in making it more popular among consumers.
