Yesterday, HTC officially teased the launch of the world’s first 64-bit Android smartphone at IFA — the Desire 820 — that will sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chip. Today, Qualcomm has gone ahead and silently made the page of the said processor online on its website revealing its full feature list and specifications. 

The Snapdragon 615 is going to be an octa-core chip using ARM’s Cortex-A53 cores in big.LITTLE implementation. The slower and low-power A53 cores will be clocked at 1GHz, while the faster ones will be running at 1.7GHz. Other key features of the chipset are as follows:

• Quad-core 1.7GHz ARM Cortex A53 + quad-core 1.0GHz A53
• Adreno 405 GPU
• Cat. 4 LTE support (Up to 150Mbps)
• Qualcomm’s RF360 modem
• Video recording at 1080p @ 30FPS with H.264 codec
• Video playback at 1080p @ 60FPS in AVC and HVEC formats
• USB 2.0, Bluetooth 4.0, 1-stream Wi-Fi- n/ac, NFC
• Up to WQXGA display support
• Support for up to 21MP camera sensors
• Qualcomm Quick Charge 1.0 technology (Max. input 1.5A)
• Based on 28nm LP process

The Snapdragon 615 is going to be the first 64-bit chip to power an Android device and expectations are pretty high from it. It will be interesting to see how it performs compared to all the current mid and high-end chips in benchmarks and whether it is able to deliver a perfect balance between power and battery life or not.
