A week after announcing the Pebble Steel, Pebble has gone ahead and announced the Pebble Time Steel. As the name suggests, the Pebble Time Steel comes with an all-metal body, including a CNC-finished 316L stainless steel casing.

While the Time Steel is thicker by 1mm than the Pebble Steel, it makes up for it by offering up to 10 days of battery life compared to up to 7 days of battery life for the normal variant. Other features of the watch remains the same as the Pebble Time, which includes a new color e-paper display, microphone, water resistance, and more. The watch will also be available for purchase with a leather strap if you are not too fond of the steel strap.

The Pebble Time Steel will cost $299 when it is available in July, though Kickstarter backers can back the watch right away for only $249. As a bonus, they will also get the leather as well as the steel band with the watch. The watch will be available in silver, black, and gold.

If you have already backed Pebble Time on Kickstarter, worry not as you can always manage your order from Kickstarter and upgrade to the Time Steel by backing more money to the project.

In addition to the Time Steel, Pebble also announced a new open accessory platform that takes advantage of the smart accessory port on the watch to add more functionality to it. The company’s CEO, Eric Migicovsky, said that instead of adding sensors to the watch that will become obsolete in a few years, it is better to make them modular, which will theoretically extend the functional life of the watch. Some examples of smartstraps given by the company’s CEO included a strap with a GPS module and another one to extend the battery life of the watch.

Pebble has been working closely with many accessory makers on smartstraps and expects to to be available later this year.
