After being out of the smartphone race for a couple of years now, Panasonic today announced its comeback in the market with the impressive Lumix CM1.

The handset sports a 4.7-inch 1080p display and is powered by a Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.3GHz. Other specs include 2GB RAM, 16GB of storage space, a microSD card slot and a 2600mAh battery, and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.

However, what sets the handset apart from other Android devices is its 20MP camera that has a whopping 1-inch sensor, which is bigger than what Nokia managed to fit in the 808 and Lumia 1020, and is of the same size as sensor found inside the Sony RX100 series. This is accompanied by an F/2.8 Lecia lens, a mechanical shutter and a manual control ring control as well.

Besides rivaling a standalone camera in performance, this 21mm thick phone can also record videos in 4K resolution.

Panasonic says that the Lumix CM1 will go on sale from November this year in France and Germany with a price of around 900 Euros. The handset will initially only be available in these ‘test’ markets to gauge consumer interests, which will allow Panasonic to decide whether it should bring this smartphone to other parts of the world or not.
