OnePlus today announced their newest handset: the OnePlus 3T. Building on the success of the OnePlus 3, the OnePlus 3T packs in a slightly faster processor, a better camera, more storage, and an IPS LCD display that may not go down well with everyone.

Snapdragon 821

While there are quite a few phones in the market that are powered by a Snapdragon 821 chipset, the OnePlus 3 is only the second phone in the market to come with the ‘performance edition’ of the chipset. This means that the chipset is clocked at 2.35GHz, slightly faster than the 2.15GHz clock speed found on other devices that feature a Snapdragon 821. The higher clock speed should lead to the OnePlus 3T performing slightly faster than the likes of the Google Pixel and LG V20 in benchmarks and games, though the difference is barely going to be noticeable in regular use. The Adreno 530 GPU is also clocked slightly higher so the OnePlus 3T should be able to eek out slightly higher frame rates than the OnePlus 3 and other Snapdragon 820 powered devices in some games.

Better Selfie Camera

Contrary to the rumors, the OnePlus 3T features the same 16MP rear shooter as found on the OnePlus 3. It only features a better EIS implementation and comes with a scratch resistant Sapphire glass cover, but that’s about it. Instead, the handset comes with an upgraded selfie shooter. While the OnePlus 3 comes with an 8MP selfie shooter, the OnePlus 3T features a 16MP Samsung shooter at the front with Phase Detection Autofocus. While the extra resolution will allow the 3T to capture more detailed selfies in daylight, the inclusion of PDAF should lead the handset to capture vastly better-looking selfies than the 3.

Bigger Battery

To go along with the faster and slightly more power hungry Snapdragon 821 chipset, the OnePlus 3T also comes with a bigger 3400mAh battery. The 400mAh bump in battery capacity should translate into the OnePlus 3T delivering substantially better battery life than the OnePlus 3. Plus, the handset also comes with Dash Charge which means that you can charge it quickly in no time as well.

More Storage

Another key selling of the OnePlus 3T is that it comes with more storage than the OnePlus 3. While the OnePlus 3 is only available with 64GB storage, OnePlus offers the 3T in two storage variants: 64GB and 128GB. The NAND storage also makes use of f2fs filesystem for improved loading times.

Price

Since the OnePlus 3T comes with slightly better specs, it also comes with a price tag to match. The 64GB variant of the handset is priced at $439, with the 128GB model going for $479.

OnePlus launching an upgraded version of the OnePlus 3 less than six months after its launch is definitely not going to go down well with existing customers of the handset. Nonetheless, for its price, the OnePlus 3T seems like a great handset. What do you think about it?
