Last year, the OmniROM team wowed everyone by bringing a multi-window feature to stock Android. Sadly, the feature was pretty buggy and never made its way to the official OmniROM nightlies. At the beginning of this year, the team explained its problems with the current multi-window implementation and how it planned on solving them. While the developers are still not done working on their new multi-window implementation, one of the OmniROM members has posted a video showing the team’s other take on multi-window — floating windows.

As the name suggests, the feature will allow OmniROM users to put any app in a ‘windowed’ mode, which in turn allows them to drag it around the screen and dock it anywhere they like or even minimise it.

Notice the app circle bar on the right? You can only put apps in floating window mode using it and not via the Recents app list, as it was done in the multi window feature.

Floating window also works with third-party apps and not just the in-built apps. Sadly, the feature still has not made it to the official OmniROM nightly builds because the developers are busy in fixing the rough edges and minor issues currently present in the patch set. However, if you are impatient to get your hands on it, head over to your device’s specific sub-forum on XDA and find an unofficial OmniROM build with the feature baked in.
