Google started rolling out the November security patch update for its Pixel and Nexus devices from earlier today. More importantly for Pixel 2 XL owners though, the update brings a number of changes to fix various display related issues with the device.

Firstly, as promised, Google has introduced a new ‘Saturated’ color profile mode for the display to make it look more vivid and contrast-y when compared to other OLED panels out there. The company has also renamed the ‘Vivid’ color option to ‘Boosted.’

To reduce burn-in and image retention issues, Google is now also automatically dimming the navigation bar after a short period of inactivity. Combined with a drop in screen brightness by 50 nits, Google hopes to mitigate screen burn-in and image retention issues on the OLED panel of the Pixel 2 XL. Google also says that it will make further enhancements to the Pixel 2 XL’s display with the December software update.

The new ‘Saturated’ display mode is also present on the smaller Pixel 2, though its display has not received any kind of flak. Apart from this, the November security patch also contains fixes for the clicking sound affecting the smaller Pixel.

In addition to the changes mentioned above, Google has also taken the opportunity to fix plenty of other small bugs on is newer Pixels. This includes Bluetooth improvements, improvements to front camera speed, and more. The November security patch will be rolled out to all compatible Nexus and Pixel devices within the next 1-2 weeks.
