2018 may have been the year of the notch, but it looks like next year is going to be all about that hole-punch design.

We have already seen Samsung and other companies unveil full-screen designs that offer a small cutout for the front-facing camera. Samsung calls it the “Infinity-O” design. And now it looks like Motorola is jumping onto that bandwagon for 2019 as well, if these renders are any indicator. 91Mobiles has the lowdown, which isn’t much other than a few scant details of the upcoming handset and a nice look at what’s to come.

We can see a pair of cameras on the back to start, positioned in a vertical format that is very, very reminiscent of the iPhone X. There also appears to be a 3.5mm headphone jack, which should hopefully be good news to some folks out there. One of the rear cameras is reportedly a 48MP sensor, so that’s something. The Motorola logo on the back also serves as a fingerprint reader.

The mainstay here is the 6.2-inch display with a punch-hole cutout design, with the camera in the top corner as usual. This design is already fairly common and there haven’t been that many devices to actually launch with it, so be prepared for 2019 to serve up a lot of the same. Still, with the minimized bezels it’s certainly not bad.

Better than the notch, right? What do you think of the Motorola P40?
