At an event in China today, Meizu today unveiled its latest flagship handset for China — the MX5. The handset comes with a full metal body that is only 7.6mm thick and has been treated to a unique color and injection molding process.

Meizu has blatantly copied iPhones design with its previous handsets, and with the MX5, the company has taken the same direction once again. The front of the handset is clearly reminiscent of the iPhone design, while the back looks like an amalgamation of HTC One and iPhone design.

Under the hood, the Meizu MX5 is powered by MediaTek’s octa-core 64-bit Helio X10 chipset, which comprises of eight Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.2GHz, a PowerVR G6200 GPU, and is fabricated on the 28nm HPM process for lower power consumption and heat dissipation. The chipset is coupled with 3GB RAM, a 5.5-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, and will be available in 16, 32 or 64GB storage variants. It also features dual-SIM connectivity with 4G LTE and comes with two nano-SIM card slots.

Like its predecessor, the MX5 comes with a physical home button that features an integrated fingerprint sensor.

As for the camera, the MX5 comes with a 20MP camera at the rear with a 6-element plastic lens. It makes use of Sony’s IMX220 sensor and is aided by a dual-LED flash and laser autofocus, as seen on the LG G3 and G4. Meizu boasts that the rear camera is capable of auto focusing on a subject in only around 0.2 seconds. On the front, a 5MP shooter with an f/2.0 aperture is present to take detailed and beautiful selfies. The handset is capable of recording 4K videos using the H.265 codec that makes it more space efficient than the H.264 codec used by other smartphones in the market. In addition to this, the MX5 is also capable of recording slow-motion videos in 720p resolution at 100fps.

On the software side, the MX5 runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop, though the OS has been completely overshadowed by Meizu’s own Flyme 4.5 skin. The latest version of the skin makes abundant use of transparency, glass effects and new animations. It also features support for themes that will allow you to customize the interface of the handset to your liking.

The MX5 comes with a gigantic 3150mAh battery that should be more than enough to allow it to last a day of heavy usage. And in case it does, worry not as the handset also features mCharge technology that allows it go from 0-25% when charged for only 10 minutes — or 50% in an additional 20 minutes — using the supplied charger.

The 16GB Meizu MX5 will be available for 1800 yuan (~$290), while the 32GB and 64GB variants will be sold for 1999 yuan ($322) and 2399 yuan ($390), respectively. The handset will be available in three colors: white, grey, and gold.
