Not wanting to be left behind Vivo, which announced two new phones earlier today, Oppo has launched a new Android device of its own. Called the A53, the phone features mid-range hardware packed inside a body made of magnesium alloy.

The Oppo A53 is powered by the octa-core Snapdragon 615 chipset and comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD display. The processor is accompanied by 2GB of RAM, imaging is handled by 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel rear and front cameras, and storage capacity is 16GB with provision for expansion via a microSD slot. The 3,075 mAh battery is considerably large for the humble hardware inside the device; the A53 supports Oppo’s VOOC rapid charging technology and can offer up to 300 hours of standby time on a single charge.

The phone supports LTE connectivity and has a hybrid SIM slot, which means it doesn’t support dual SIM functionality and storage expansion at the same time. Like every other device launched these days (not including the new Nexus duo or the HTC One A9), the A53 runs Android 5.1 Lollipop with Oppo’s ColorOS 2.1 on top.

No word yet on the A53’s pricing nor any information on where the handset will be available.
