As expected, LG has officially announced the G Flex 2 at CES 2015 in Las Vegas. The G Flex 2 is the successor to the original G Flex, which was announced back in IFA at 2013, and comes with some meaningful improvements and enhancements.
While the handset retains the curved P-OLED screen of its predecessor, it has been reduced in size to 5.5-inches. On the positive side, the resolution has been bumped to 1080p and LG has worked on reducing the ghosting effects that plagued the original. The G Flex 2 is also the first Android device to be announced with Qualcomm’s next generation Snapdragon 810 processor, which comprises of an octa-core 64-bit CPU, an Adreno 430 GPU and more.
The 700mm radius curvature on the front of the device helps in providing an immersive reading experience and also brings the microphone closer to the mouth when the user is on phone, which thereby allows the device to filter more of the background noise. The front glass has been treated by a special chemical process from LG that boosts its durability by 20%. There is also a 650mm radius curvature on the back of the device to make it more comfortable to grip.
On the camera front, LG has used the same setup that was originally seen on the G3, including a LaserAF sensor for quick auto focus in all lighting conditions and Optical Image Stabilisation+.
LG has improved the “self healing” back of the G Flex 2 and greatly reduced its healing time. It boasts that the “self healing” back on the Flex 2 can heal from the day-to-day nicks and dings in only 10 seconds. The back also comes with a hand crafted spin hairline pattern that shows its polish from every angle.

The G Flex 2 also comes with a number of innovative and useful software features, including Gesture Shot and Gesture View, which we have already seen on the G3. Interestingly, the device also comes with Glance View that allows you to view notification and other key information by a simple swipe down on the screen when the screen is off.
While LG has reduced the battery size of the G Flex 2 to 3000mAh, it has added support for Fast Charge that allows the device to charge from 0-50% in only under 40 minutes.
The handset will be available in two colors initially: Platinum Silver and Flamenco Red. It will go on sale in Korea by the end of this month with a wider roll out scheduled for the following months.
