As soon as the Xperia Z1 was leaked, Sony’s flagship phone for the second half of 2013, there were rumors saying that the Japanese handset maker would create a smaller version with almost the exact same specs, except that they’d swap out the 5.0 inch 1080p display for a 4.3 inch 720p panel. Well, it looks like the rumors were right. Thanks to a leaked document from the Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo, here are the specs for the “Z1 f”, which will likely be called something else in the west.

Starting with the processor, there’s a full blown Snapdragon 800 inside, and it sits alongside 2 GB of RAM. The camera is the same 20.7 megapixel sensor inside the Z1. And the screen, like I mentioned above, is 4.3 inches and pushes 720p. Here are the exact dimensions of the device: 127 mm tall by 64.9 mm wide by 9.4 mm thick.

How does that body compare to other device? Let’s take a look at the Moto X, which many people claim to be the “perfect” sized Android phone. It’s 129.3 mm tall by 65.3 mm wide by 10.4 mm thick. In other words, Motorola made a phone that’s just 2.3 mm taller, less than a millimeter wider, and a hair thicker, yet they’ve managed to stick a 4.7 inch display in their phone versus Sony’s 4.3 inch display.

Should you be excited by the Z1 mini? I always recommend you wait for the reviews. The only thing that I’m concerned about is the battery. Is the 2300 mAh battery big enough that’ll it last you the whole day? I mean, that’s one hell of a spec sheet to power.

And as for when this phone will become official, no one really knows, but I’d say this year.
