A new Chinese certification site has revealed the possible hardware specifications of the rumored Xiaomi Hongmi successor. The smartphone is expected to be unveiled in April during the Xiaomi Festival in China, so we hope to get further details in the coming days.

TENAA, which is the Chinese equivalent of the FCC, has revealed that the smartphone will be available in a quad core Snapdragon 410 (64-bit) variant with possible support for 4G LTE as well as an octa-core model with MediaTek’s MT6592 chipset. Other details that have leaked out so far include the 5.5 inch 720p display, a 13 megapixel camera on the back accompanied by a 5 megapixel portrait camera, 1GB of RAM and possibly Android 4.4 KitKat, although there’s no confirmation of this.

The original Hongmi — or the Redmi as it is known globally — was one of the best value-for-money handsets available in the markets with a price tag of $130. So it is hoped the company will leverage that and launch a much improved successor. We might have to wait until April to get information on this handset, but considering that this is not a high end device, the waiting shouldn’t matter much.
