Huawei Nova

After leaks of the Nova Phone earlier, Huawei has officially launched the device at IFA 2016. The Nova and Nova Plus, Huawei’s latest iterations carry on the designs that inspired them.

The Nova Phone comes across as a smaller version of the Nexus 6P, with a similar design and finish. The larger Nova Plus, though bearing the same Nova name, takes inspiration from Huawei’s Mate line of devices. Even with different inspirations for design, the internals of the device are extremely similar.

Both devices feature 2.5D glass and a straight laced metal body with a premium feel and finish. The Nova and Nova Plus feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal memory. The smaller device is equipped with a 3020mAh battery, while the larger Nova Plus gets a 3340mAh battery.

The Nova features a 12MP main camera with 1.25 micron pixels while the Nova plus features a 16MP rear shooter. Both camera’s feature phase detection and autofocus. The selfie shooters for the devices is an 8MP camera with Huawei’s beauty mode baked into the software.

Both the devices have a USB Type-C charging port and feature a fingerprint scanner on the rear of the device. The Nova and Nova Plus launch with Huawei’s EMUI 4.1 (based on Android M) which comes with features such as Knuckle Sense. Knuckle Sense lets you use gesture controls on the screen as the device can differentiate between fingers and knuckles and recognise the gestures accordingly.
