HTC is continuing its streak of releasing frequent and quick updates to its 2013 flagship. The Android 4.4.2 KitKat update is beginning to roll out to the HTC One in some parts of Europe, carrying software version 4.19.401.8 in a 308.24 MB over-the-air package. The European rollout comes less than a week after HTC announced that the KitKat update was being tested by carriers in the US, and follows the update’s release to unlocked models stateside in November last year.
In addition to under-the-hood enhancements, the update brings features such as inbuilt wireless printing and NFC payment support, new Bluetooth profiles, white battery icon as a result of Google’s new rules for Android’s status bar, unspecified security improvements, reduced memory usage, and full-screen immersive mode. If you’ve been sticking to HTC’s stock browser because of its support for Adobe Flash, well, it’s time to move on, as the update also kills support for Flash (browsers like Dolphin and Next are good alternatives.)
The update’s live in the UK, Poland, Latvia, and most of the Nordic region at the moment, and as usual, it will be a while before it trickles down to all users and regions, with carrier-locked models expected to take longer than unlocked ones. If you’re impatient, you can keep doing a manual check through the Settings » About » Software updates menu, though that most likely won’t hurry things along.
