As if the three different variants of the One M9 were not already enough, HTC today unveiled a new handset carrying the M9 moniker in China: the One M9e.

The One M9e looks similar to other One M9 handsets from HTC, but comes with more modest internals. The front of the handset houses a smaller 5-inch Full HD display, but it is still flanked by the company’s iconic BoomSound speakers. Under the hood, the M9e comes with an oct-core MediaTek MT6795T chipset clocked at 2.2GHz, 2GB RAM, and 16GB internal storage.

There is also a microSD card slot, a 13MP rear camera with an F/2.2 aperture, a 4MP UltraPixel selfie camera, 2,840mAh battery, Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac. and LTE connectivity on this 9.61mm thin phone that weighs 157 gms. On the software front, the handset runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with Sense 6.0 on top of it.

The phone is already on sale in China for 2,699 yuan (~$425), though interested buyers can knock off 500 yuan from its price by using a voucher.

With HTC releasing so many phones with similar names and a similar design language, it is no secret that the company is struggling. A crowded smartphone lineup will easily confuse its potential customers, who will then eventually just end up buying a Galaxy S6 or iPhone 6s.
