Beside the LG-made Nexus 5X, Google also unveiled the Huawei-made Nexus 6P running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The handset is the costlier of the two Nexuses unveiled today and sports specs to match its price.

The Nexus 6P is the first handset in the Nexus lineup to feature an all-metal design, and is crafted from aero grade aluminium. There is a black glass bar at the top of the phone’s rear though, which acts as a RF window for all the antennas inside it. On the front, the 5.7-inch AMOLED display features a Quad HD resolution and is flanked by front-facing stereo speakers located at the top and bottom, which take up a considerabl space.

Internally, the Nexus 6P packs in a Snapdragon 810 v2.1 chipset clocked at 2GHz, an Adreno 430 GPU, and 3GB RAM. While the handset does not feature a microSD card slot, it will be available in three storage options: 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB, making it the first Nexus handset to be offering with such high storage options. Other notable specs include a 3450mAh battery with fast charging support, a USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, NFC, and LTE connectivity. The fingerprint scanner at the rear is called Nexus Imprint and is capable of directly waking up the device from sleep. The fingerprint scanner can also be used to authenticate purchases on the Google Play Store.

Nexus 6P camera

The rear of the Nexus 6P houses a 12.3MP camera with an F/2.0 aperture, a LaserAF sensor, and 1.55um pixel size that at least on paper shows promise. On the front, there is an 8MP shooter with 1.44um pixel size. When combined with the new Google camera app, Google promises a vastly improved camera experience than it has ever managed to deliver with previous Nexus devices. You can also launch the camera by quickly double tapping the power button. The device is also capable of recording slow-mo videos at up to 240fps and also feature Smart Burst.

The hardware of the Nexus 6P is only half the story here though. The device runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow that comes with many new features and enhancements, including a permissions manager, native APIs for the fingerprint scanner, and major power saving optimisations like Doze and App Standby.

The Nexus 6P will be available in four colors: Frost White, Aluminium, and Graphite. Thanks to the metal body and impressive spec sheet, the Nexus 6P is priced at $549 for the 32GB storage variant. The 64GB and 128GB storage variants are available at an additional premium of $50 and $100, respectively. The handset will be available for pre-order on the Google Store in the United States, United Kingdom, and Ireland.

Google is also bundling 90-day subscription to Google Play Music with the handset. Additionally, for customers who pre-order the handset in the United States, Google will bundle a $50 Google Play credit with the device.
