3D Touch is one of the benchmark features for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, and Google had aspirations to build a competitor for the feature into its Android mobile platform.

The feature, which is similar to 3D Touch and first found the spotlight in early developer releases for Android N –Google’s upcoming version of the mobile operating system– in April of this year. Expectations had the feature being put on display at Google I/O 2016, which is set to take place later in May, and that could still happen. However, Google apparently doesn’t have plans to launch the feature along with the public release of Android N later this year.

According to a report from Recode, Google has delayed its 3D Touch-like rival for Android. What that means, however, is simply that Google reportedly doesn’t have plans to launch the feature along with Android N’s public launch, but that the feature could still make it into the software in a later “maintenance update” sometime after the public launch.

It’s still possible that Google will show off the feature and its capabilities at Google I/O, and that appears to still be the expectation. That event happens next week so we don’t have long to wait to see Google’s version of the technology.
