The sales of Samsung Galaxy S6 edge — the curved variant of the Galaxy S6 — has been in higher demand than anticipated by the Korean company.

Sources estimate that demand for the Galaxy S6 edge currently makes up about 50 percent of the total demand for the Galaxy S6. This is far higher than the 20-30 percent demand estimated by analysts before the handsets were launched.

“While we cannot reveal the exact sales figure, the domestic sales volume over past three days is an all-time high (among previous Galaxy models),” an industry insider said.

According to industry sources, Samsung will be unable to catch up with supply anytime soon. Samsung’s CEO had also said last week that the Galaxy S6 edge is in high demand, and that it will be in short supply for the foreseeable future.

A Samsung official even admitted to Yonhap News that the company failed to make a precise prediction of demand for the Galaxy S6 edge.

The curved screen on the Galaxy S6 edge only offers limited benefits over the Galaxy S6, but it is still in high demand probably because of the novelty that the curved screen adds to the handset.
