Paranoid Android 5.0

The Paranoid Android team today releases the first alpha build of their ROM based on Android 5.0.2. Since this is the first release of the ROM that is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, it does not come with signature Paranoid Android features, though the team is working on bringing them back.

For now, the first Alpha build is very close to an AOSP build of Android with only some minor useful features that will improve the day-to-day usability of Lollipop. One major change in Paranoid Android 5.0 is that the ROM will not be rooted by default. Instead, users will have to manually flash Superuser or SuperSU to gain root access on the ROM.

Below is the full feature-list of the first alpha:

– Update the baseline to AOSP Lollipop 5.0.2
– Improvements to Heads Up, such as an option to disable heads up interruptions completely
– Add Quick Unlock
– Extend the power menu
– Animate the volume panel in a more material manner
– Make it possible to skip songs using volume buttons when the device is locked
– Add CM12 Theme Engine

If you are running Paranoid Android or any other ROM on your Android device, you will first have to do a factory reset before you can install this alpha build. Additionally, OnePlus One users will first have to install the latest version of the CM nightly since it contains a new firmware for the sensors and touch screen panel, which is necessary to prevent bootloops.

For now, the PA team has released the first alpha of their ROM for the OnePlus One, Nexus 5, Oppo Find 7, Nexus 7, Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9. With Paranoid Android 5.0, the team is also dropped support for the 4-year old Galaxy Nexus.
