The latest Chrome Dev for Android (v51.0.2700.2) has removed the option of merging tabs and apps for multi-tasking.

Chrome for Android has traditionally had the possibility of merging open tabs with apps, which was touted as a multi-tasking dream. In reality, it was one of the least used feature and it made a clutter out of the multitasking menu making it difficult to find what you were looking for.

Over time, Google had noticed the lack of adoption of this feature by users and the default option was disabled by Chrome on its browser. Users still did have the option of toggling this feature through the Setting menu. However, it seems the company is completely phasing out this feature from the new Dev Chrome for Android (v51.0.2700.2) as this option is unavailable now.

Chrome Dev is usually used by developers to preview features that will make the cut onto a more stable and newer version of Chrome for Android. Though not all new features will make the cut, most of the time they do; And given that this feature is not present on the latest version of Chrome Dev, it is very likely that the feature is getting the axe.

Would you like to see the merging tabs and apps feature present in the new version? Or are you happy to see it go? Or you were not even aware of this feature and it makes little difference to you? Let us know in the comments below!
