A report from South Korea’s Electronic Times claims that Samsung will be using Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 820 chipset in the Galaxy S7. The publication cites unnamed industry sources and says that variants of the Galaxy S7 that will be sold in China and the United States will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 chipset.

Other regions where the Galaxy S7 will go on sale will still make use of the company’s own Exynos chipset.

We have already heard rumors about Samsung testing certain variants of the Galaxy S7 with a Snapdragon 820 chipset inside, so this piece of news should not come as a surprise. The only reason Samsung used its own Exynos chipset inside all the variants of the Galaxy S6 this year was due to the overheating issues of the Snapdragon 810 chipset.

However, rumors and leaks have indicated that Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 820 chipset will fix all the heating issues that have plagued its predecessor. Qualcomm has already revealed that the Snapdragon 820 will be a quad-core chip that will feature its own custom Kryo cores, Adreno 530 GPU, and 14-bit dual Spectre ISP.
