If you thought there was no way Samsung could unveil a second-generation Galaxy Gear smartwatch later this month, at MWC, since its predecessor is still fairly young, you may want to reconsider.
Rarely do we see gadgets get 50 percent discounts out of nowhere, so it’s unlikely, nay impossible Best Buy decided on the spur of the moment to be more generous than ever, and shave $150 off Galaxy Gear’s price. So make no mistake, this move was planned in advance.
Regardless, a solid deal is a solid deal, and even if it’s pretty much universally hated, the Gear is a bargain at $150. Again, that’s half its $300 list price. Any catches, strings attached? Just one: prospective buyers need to handpick from exotic versions coated in rose gold, wild orange, oatmeal beige, and lime green, whereas more “serious” models, painted in black and gray, go for $250.
I’m sure you know the Galaxy Gear is practically useless sans a compatible high-end Samsung smartphone, so why not kill two birds with one stone by also committing to a Galaxy Note 3? The 5.7-inch phablet will reportedly cost $200 with AT&T and Verizon two-year contracts via Best Buy during the weekend.
Right now, the Note 3 is $300 on the same terms, albeit in the spirit of full disclosure, we should probably mention Amazon sells it starting at $150 already. Choose carefully, but don’t you forget the Galaxy Gear. By the way, that particular promotion is a special, due to expire at the end of the day. Tick-tock.
