BARCENA—Samsung is by far the biggest name in Android hardware, but the company seems to be coasting on its success. The Galaxy S5 is merely an incremental upgrade with a few new flashy features, but none that seem to warrant buying the phone out of contract. If it were an Apple device, we’d all it the “Galaxy S4s.”

The Galaxy S5 looks a lot like last year’s Galaxy S4.

It’s hard to keep track of which generation flagship device this is for Samsung, but the Galaxy S series is usually one of its biggest launches of the year, next to the company’s large-sized Note series. This year, it’s major marquee features are software-based, though the hardware got a few upgrades, too.

The Galaxy S5 features a slightly larger 5.1-inch 1080p Super AMOD screen. It still retains the same swappable back cover as previous versions, as well as a microSD slot a removable 2,800 mAh battery pack. Though its iridescent backing is pretty, it’s polymer it doesn’t feel premium. [[scrap this entire paragraph, replace with “the display has the same 1080p resolution as the GS4, but…” then a description of how it compares. brighter? not brighter? can you tell the difference, or not? Either way is worth writing about. No specs!]]

Inside, it features a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM up to 32GB of internal storage. There’s also a 16Mrear-facing camera with Ultra HD recording capabilities real-time HDR for both video photos, as well as a couple of other new camera modes that Samsung announced at its event at Mobile rld Congress. [[Nothing in this graf is hs-on. wrote all this in the other article. Replace the whole graf about whether it feels like it performs better. If the camera takes photos more quickly. stuff like that.]]

Same thinness button convention as the last Galaxy flagship release, too…

This year’s model is I7-certified, which means its water dust resistant. Now you no longer have to buy a separate phone to get the same rugged capabilities as phones like the Galaxy S4 Active. The Galaxy S5 also feature a fingerprint scanner, a likely response to both Apple’s HTC’s embedded fingerprint scanners on their smartphones. [[This is just a list of features again, not an experiential opinion. Does it feel more rugged? Did you try the fingerprint sensor does it read your finger easily? Is it awkwardly placed for swiping? ite things that only a person who has held the thing should know.]]

It’s pretty from afar, but up close it’s obviously polymer.

There’a also a heart rate sensor embedded below the camera lens on the rear-side of the device. It works with Samsung’s health-centric app, S Health 3.0, which was initially introduced with the Galaxy S4. [[again, not hs-on at all. scrap the graf, or replace with an opinion that comes from using.]]

See that little dot? Right there, next to the flash. Yeah, that monitors your heart rate!
